Matt lafontaine - Mentor & Program Facilitator
Matt LaFontaine is the founder of Safe Space Community and a leading advocate for mental wellbeing.
After navigating his own challenges and periods of uncertainty, Matt discovered the power of genuine human connection and the importance of doing more of what you love. That experience shaped his purpose: to help others find meaning, strength, and happiness in their own lives.
In 2024, Matt completed 3,249 pull ups in 8 hours to honour the lives lost to suicide in Australia and used the moment to host a Mental Health Wellness Day for his community. This journey later led him to break the World Record for the most pull ups completed in a month, an incredible 41,429. The final 429 carries a powerful meaning: 42.9% of Australians aged 16–84 will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime, a reminder of how important it is to support your mental health and check in on the people around you.
Through Safe Space and his broader work in the community, Matt’s message is simple: you don’t have to face life alone, and growth doesn’t need to look perfect. His focus is on creating spaces that remind people they belong, and that they’re capable of living a life that feels real, full, and their own.
